Strips in Polymer VIIRS Rw image

Dear François,

After I processed VIIRS L1C data by Polymer, the Rw images included many stripes. Take Rw551 for example. Then I reprojected Rw551 image using seadas, however, the reprojected image included strips too.

Do you know what caused the strips and how to deal with them?

Thank you.
Kind regards,
Mengmeng.

Dear Mengmeng,

Indeed, this is a particularity of the VIIRS sensor. There is no data at level1 for these pixels. This is due to the fact that pixels at the edge of the swath cover a larger area at ground, so some lines of pixels are spared. If you reproject to a similar spatial resolution, there are gaps as you see on your reprojected image. You could reproject to a coarser spatial resolution, so that the gaps would be filled. Or see in the reprojection software if there is any options to fill the gaps.
Cheers,
François

Dear François,

Thank you for your reply. I got it.

In addition, I checked the corresponding VIIRS L2 data which included stripes too. But after I reprojected the VIIRS L2 data, the strips disappeared. So the reprojection method that I used was able to fix the strips in the L2 data. But I wonder why it could not fix the strips in the polymer results?

Thank you.
Kind regards,
Mengmeng.

I couldn't say, sorry. It seems that the reprojection software handles the VIIRS standard L2 and VIIRS Polymer L2 differently, but this question goes back to the reprojection software.
Cheers,
François
