Hello!

I wonder is installing python virtual environment necessary for running Polymer on ubuntu? If not, I'd like to skip it because my ubuntu on both Mac and Windows were unable to boot when I did this step.

In addition, I wonder what versions of virtualbox and ubuntu are required for running Polymer?

You need python to run in a virtual environment. I used Windows Subsystem for Linux(WSL): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/wsl/about and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
